Join us for a special event with Dr John Hamre, president and CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC and former US Deputy Secretary of Defence.
Dr Hamre will join Dr Michael Fullilove AM, Executive Director of the Lowy Institute, to discuss President Trump's record, how he is likely to manage the Western alliance, and Australia's strategic outlook.
The conversation will preview the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, which Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will attend alongside the leaders of major Western powers, and where President Trump will take centre stage.
Dr Hamre will join the conversation online from Washington and Dr Fullilove will host an in-person audience at 31 Bligh Street. The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.
About the speakers
Dr John Hamre was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of CSIS in January 2000. Before joining CSIS, he served as the 26th United States Deputy Secretary of Defence. In 2007, Secretary of Defence Robert Gates appointed Dr Hamre to serve as Chairman of the Defence Policy Board, and he served in that capacity for four Secretaries of Defence.
Dr Michael Fullilove AM is the Executive Director of the Lowy Institute. He was previously an adviser to Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating and a lawyer. Dr Fullilove is the author of Rendezvous with Destiny: How FranklinD. Roosevelt and Five Extraordinary Men took America into the War and into the World. He is currently writing a book on President John F. Kennedy and his adviser Ted Sorensen.
